It was written that our 6 month stay in California was not going to be easy. After experiencing the Covid19 pandemic far from home, another threat fell on this state, as well as on the entire West Coast. This danger was however less exceptional than the outbreak of a new virus, since it is a natural phenomenon which returns every year: wildfires.
If we hear the name of Ansel Adams, several black and white images of Yosemite landscape come in our mind. Half Dome, El Capitan, Cathedral Rocks, the famous sight of Yosemite valley from Tunnel view, or the Jeffrey pine at Sentinel Dome photographed in 1940.
During a 6 months stay in Davis, California, I had the opportunity to learn the local fauna and to make a portfolio of animals I could photograph. This can be used as a guide to recognize most common species of this area.
In early July 2021, in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, we could eventually visit Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon National Park to observe the oldest living organis on Earth.
After a long trip, we arrived at Davis, California, for a 6 months sabbatical leave to work at UC Davis. Our daughter Elina spent her second anniversary in this new environment.
By the age of 2, Elina had around 30 flights in her experience. That also means, that we, as parents, gathered some experience how it is to travel with a baby.
